Day 78 - Rest Day Porthmadog (Wales)

Finally a night with less than 100% humidity and some wind to make sleeping possible.

After breakfast it was 50 metres to the bike shop where the shop owner, forewarned the previous night at choir practice (what else do you do in Wales !) graciously prioritised work on my bike despite having a full offering.

This gave time for some important stuff like figuring out how to use the local laundromat while H wanted full value on our room deciding to go back and have a snooze waiting for our relocation from the twin to single rooms (no not a lovers tiff just a shortage of rooms !)

With bike repaired (another cable !) and functional once again thx to the jovial Welsh shop owner (all for @£6) it was time to fill in the rest of the day.

H took to the streets in this busy seaside lookalike town to practice his Welsh as well as his Tablet photography skills (see pics).

Having missed Kev i took to the railways knowing that Porthmadog is the starting point for the fabulous steam train that runs into the hills to Ffestioniog.

Run by the oldest independtly owned railway in the world (1832) the 25 mile journey goes past the foothills of Snowdon taking in fantastic scenery before arrive at Ffestionog site of a large scale 19th C slate mining operation. - a tremendous round trip !

Back in Porthmadog the boys settled for takeaway Chinese food (not quite up to B2 s standard) that we had to smuggle past reception - our hotel obviously for toffs !

Our only concern is to morrows forecast for torrential rain in parts of Wales as a change moves through !

P.s.
We poke to Marysia, still with a smike on her face, whose journey is close to 1,000 kms as she nears Apollo Bay on her solo journey from Adelaide /- all is well !

  1. Shame about your tablet Litchy. Does that put the brakes (sorry about the pun) on your world record attempt at the most number of selfies on a cycling trip. Or are you using an iPhone for the photos. What is it with these Welsh names spelling and pronunciation ? I have made a note to never play scrabble with a Welshman.
