With Henley vowing to cycle till he dropped or maybe it was me saying that i'd 'drop' him if he didn't cycle, we set off on a beautiful sunny morning with H now claiming that he felt 1,000% better !
He backed up this statement with a great early overtaking manouvre showing the qualities of an in form cyclist riding with determination and intent .. admittedly the person he was overtaking was in a motorised wheelchair, but the manouvre was still sensational !
We continued to ride on the fringes of Dartmoor and as expected being located in Devon, we were soon either climbing or descending with regularity on narrow hedge lined roads and lanes.
A couple of real beauties including one short section heading towards Sth Brent (20%) caused some early heart palpitations but after all our European training this was not too difficult.
We finally left the moor taking the busy A roads to Totnes and then Newton Abbot with the latter again having some tough little climbs.
In Newton Abbot Kev renewed his acquaintance with his favourite supermarket food chain Tescos as we took a late lunch.
Henley must have still been feeling ill as his usual meandering through a Supermarket of the like takes about 20+ mins (on a good day) but today for some mysterious reason took only 10 !
Riding through the UK on such a glorious day was a delight and i really appreciated the response of one motorist after i pushed the button at a pedestrian crossing to allow us to safely re-enter the road, the motorist shouted out ' f&$king useless cyclist ' to which I replied f%ck off you useless pr%k ! .... ahhh it felt so much like being home in OZ !
The final section to Teignmouth was again on busy roads with motorists (mainly giving us good clearance) out in their open tops taking advantage of the beautiful weather.
We eventually found our beaut b&b the Minadab Cottage. It is a lovely Thatched cottage on the outskirts of Teignmouth some 200 treats old and formerly owned by a Commander in the Royal Navy who served at the Battle of Trafalgar, Robert Benjamin Young.
Our b&b hosts bent over backwards to make us feel welcome with free soft drinks and then plying us with a free Devonshire cream tea which was fabulous !
At this rate , and with our full English breakfast this morning, there is a good chance that Lard Ass category may be reached in a few weeks time !
With Kev appearing to be recovered its off to the pub tonight for a meal before a beautiful ride tomorrow along the coast from Dawlish to Exeter on a day of a predicted scorcher - 26 C !
