Day 6 - Hasselt Belgium - 83 kms `A Canal of a Day` ! 83 kms

Another late start, can't blame the porno channel but H putting on 15 layers to battle the early cold did slow us down a trifle !

As usual we started slowly struggling to find our way out of town, doing an early loop when our map ran out and struggling to find the Belgium border apparently not very far away !

As it was our border crossing from Rousel was pretty non descript passing from the lowlands of Holland to the lowlands of Belgium - at least the forest scenery broke things up !

Our border crossing though was marked in true Aussie fashion when in the process of me telling Kev he slipped off his pedal skinning his ankle ... The commentary went something like ..

`Kev we`re now in Belgium` .. ` Oh beauty ..`Oh f&%$#k !!!

Connecting with the canal system made cycling a breeze and even H couldn't get lost although today's tally for missed signs was an impressive 7 !

Without good maps we had to rely on our offline GPS which at least gave us an idea of where we were as trying to stop any of the `flying would be Edy Merckx`s (there were plenty of them) was a little risky !

We had lunch on one of the canals with food we had purchased from a supermarket and all was going well until the wind blew over my bike causing me to go into a rage that had H struggling to calm me down !

The search for acommodation began about 4 and by 5 we had teed up a beaut b& b just off the canal near Hasselt.

Talk about a find not only a good room but also a 3 course home cooked meal dinner that had us both knocking back 2nds (too full!)

So 270 + kms done and within a days ride of the French border which despite our 3 day layover in Aalsmeer puts us only 1 day behind schedule !
